Yes my fellow metal brothers and sisters, where are you at and what subgenre of metal do you follow most? Im not talking about that fake stuff they put on some video games or the rock they play on the radio that people think is metal. I mean the real stuff, real death metal or so~ But for me Melodic Death metal is my favorite with such bands as Amon Amarth, The Absence and The Black Dahlia Murder though I equally love Melodic Black Metal, Cthonic and Blackend Thrash, Skeletonwitch.

I'm an 80's and 90's Metal fan. I love the Big Four of Thrash Metal, and I love Big Breakdowns and punchy riffs. My first modern metal band that I got into was Lamb of God, so I enjoy some Ashes of the Wake when I'm not listening to Non-Metal Bands like Primus or 311. I don't know if you'd consider Rage Against The Machine Metal, but i do, and I love them the best of anyone.

RATM is actually classified in 3 sub-genres of metal: rap metal, funk metal, and alternative metal. I think people's view of metal has been skewed and perverted majorly over time.

You have to remember, the term "Heavy Metal" was coined back in the late 1960's and was a direct pull from blues and psychedelic rock. The whole heavy metal term came from the tonality of the guitars and loudness of the music. The "fathers" of metal sit back with bands like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, and Judas Priest in the mid-70's. Majority of the bands these days are considered Classic Rock, but are the foundation of metal as we know it. By the end of the 1970's, we were introduced to bands like Iron Maiden, and by the beginning of the 80's, headbangers entered the scene.

The 80's brought glam metal to the forefront (Poison and the like), and thrash metal had its first breakout from the club scene with bands like Metallica, Megadeth, and Slayer. In the 90's the whole nu metal scene came to a head, and metal core was born by the new millennium.

So a lot of the shit you consider rock and don't essentially like is the reason that heavy metal is around today. Just sayin'.

Pfft rap metal? That would be nu metal. The bastard son metalheads dont claim. Yeah Sabbath came in 71'. Funk metal pfft dont consider that metal either. Thrash came in 81' while death and thrash came in 84 and 85. Hell NWOBHM was at the end of the 70s early 80s. Glam metal was just blah. Then towards the end of the 80s Power metal came about as a genre~ Perhaps the beginning sure it had its big rock influences but now it is its own stand alone genre with too many subgeneres for its own good. And if it is rock like RATM its fucking rock. Its like people saying Godsmack is metal. Are you serious? Gtfo with that, its like people don't even know the genre of hard rock.
