Now that that's out of the way, this is the personal account of one Ralph William (Trey) Tierce the Third, you might have heard of me, I'm kind of a big deal. Trolling 101: Most trolls crave negative attention as it's the only form of reward, punishment, social interaction that they've received in the past. Phrases like "I hate you","You're an asshole", or "Why would you even do that, I don't even" are therefor equatable to "I really like what you've done to your hair","Oh, it's nice to see you again", and "Wow, that's really impressive."

However, denying them that attention by simply not responding leaves them out in the cold. They feel ignored, isolated, and generally uncared for. This can result in a backlash of emotions that can play out in their head as suddenly their attempts to communicate with the outside world fall short. Thus, the best move would then be, instead of continuing the conversation even a little bit by responding as you did, to just forget that this thread was ever here.

Also, you can sometimes really throw them offbalance by agreeing with them. For example, if you had responded to this thread by assenting that everyone hates you, and that it does, in fact solve everything then I, at least, would start questioning the gameplan, because then I've apparently screwed with someone already riddled with self doubt and loathing, and instead of a friendly pissing contest, I'm wondering if I caused someone to jump off a bridge. Other people are slightly sociopathic and will just take the ball and run with it, which could still from your end be fun just to talk rambling bullshit, ex: This one guy even hated me so much, he cured my cancer so I could live longer and suffer more, so hating me cured cancer. It's all how you go into the conversation, but you should never get emotionally vested in any form of internet posting.
